Appointments started arriving for different things prior to the operation including
pre op which included height, weight, bloods, ecg and many many questions like do I have my own teeth, hearing aids, glasses, food allergies etc
meeting the surgeon Mrs Carmichael. She was a goddess in a bright green headscarf. She went through with me the types of scar I could expect which depended on what I had done. I was quite surprised that 5 days before the operation we were having this conversation.
I had 3 choices which she drew out for me and i took away a copy:
simple lumpectomy and lymph node removal which could result in a mis-shapen titty and my nipple no longer being in the central place it is i.e. it could be on side of titty !!!a mamoplasty where the lump and lymph nodes are removed, and then titty's nipple repositioned so it doesn't end up somewhere it shouldn't. This scarring would go from my armpit to titty, joining up with the nipple.
or a bit of a reduction which would mean scarring that went into what's called a T junction. The slight drawback for this option was that sometimes the T junction struggles to heal. Also this scarring worried me because it would be on the bra line and I thought how will it heal with a bra sitting on it.Initially when Dr Carmichael talked me through these options I just jumped in said yes that one because I wasn't taking in what she was saying so I just said yes I'll have that one !! She said, let me finish going through first !!
My gut was saying keep it simple. A prosthesis was discussed where I'd have a chicken fillet contraption in my bra to match left titty and right titty, but I knew I would not be wearing one of those.
The appointment came to an end and I went off with a nurse into another room to see some scars of other women. I was able to try and make things clearer in my head.
Scarring didn't bother me in the slightest. I was more concerned about getting the cancer out of my body. I've lived with a big scar from a heart operation as a 3 year old girl and it's never bothered me. The scar is a symbol of being alive because of surgery. And that's what this would be.
covid test @ drive through then isolate for few days until the operation
